Happy New Year! 2020! My goodness, how has it been TWENTY YEARS since the turn of the Millennium? I still remember the year 2000 so clearly – I was a fresh-faced teenager (well, perhaps not all that fresh faced, thanks a lot, teenage acne…), with big hopes and even bigger dreams, ready to take on university and conquer the world.
Twenty years later, I’m a wrinklier thirty-something year old with much less lofty hopes and dreams, ready to have another coffee and fight to keep my eyes open. Oh, how times have changed.
This poem, which can be sung to the tune of that classic Christmas song about missing front teeth, popped fully formed into my head at 4:30 AM as I was rocking and failing to soothe a miserable teething baby. It perfectly captures all of my hopes and dreams for 2020, and in fact for the entire decade to come.
For my first poem of 2020, I present to you, ALL I WANT FOR NEW YEAR’S.
Wishing you all a wonderful, happy and healthy new year full of joy and success and most of all, SLEEP!
ha! Oh, I remember the days so well. No worries, writer girl. You are gathering material right now. There will be time at some point to process and write. I hope baby is settled now and giving you some snooze time.
That’s so true!! Boy, this baby is quite a character, I definitely see him popping up in some future stories. 😀
Oh Jane! This doesn’t sound like too much to ask! Hopefully this too shall pass SOON and you will get lots of nights of better sleep!
We have been so lucky, he’s mostly a happy baby, but boy oh boy, this teething business is no fun for everyone! It’s a good thing we don’t remember it when we grow up, though our parents remember it all too well… ;-D
Happy new Year, Jane and thanks for the giggle, though I know sleep deprivation is no laughing matter. I can empathise, having seen far to many midnights and four ams and everything in between. Here’s to this resolution coming true SOON.
I do feel like now that we have a baby we’re part of this special club – I find myself sharing knowing smiles with other mamas I see, it’s like we’re all in this together. 🙂
Babies don’t wait, but perhaps later in the year? It does get better, Jane! Happy New Year!
That’s what everyone keeps saying! It’s a good thing he’s so darn cute and incredibly sweet – I keep telling him if he wasn’t such a happy baby I’d put him in a box on the steps of a church with a sign saying “FREE TO A GOOD HOME”. 😉
Thanks for the wish! I’ll TAKE it!!
I think we could all use a bit more sleep!!!
Amen to your New Years wish! And it is crazy how time flies by. To me, it still feels like the 80s were 20 years ago. 🙂
Oh my goodness, I know!! The year 2000 was just yesterday, right??
Aw, poor baby and poor mom. Your post and poem reminded me that 20 years ago, we were expecting our millenium baby — Miss Jay was born January 16. I hope those teeth come through soon.
Happy early birthday to Miss Jay! The time certainly flies by, doesn’t it?!
