Meet Jane

Jane Whittingham is a picture book author and children’s librarian from British Columbia, Canada.

She is the author of the picture books WILD ONE (Pajama Press, 2017), A GOOD DAY FOR DUCKS (Pajama Press, 2017), QUEENIE QUAIL CAN’T KEEP UP (Pajama Press, 2019), WILD ABOUT CAMPING (Nimbus Publishing, 2022), ONLY THE TREES KNOW (Kids Can Press, 2022), ANIMALS MOVE (Pajama Press, 2022), BEAR HAS A BELLY (Pajama Press, 2022), BUNNY LOVES BEANS (Pajama Press, 2023), and a forthcoming illustrated short story collection (as a writer-for-hire) with HarperCollins Canada (2025).

Jane’s books have been recognized as Toronto Public Library First and Best, Ontario Library Association Best Bets, Texas Library 2×2 and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Best Books for Babies selections, and have received positive reviews from prominent industry journals like School Library Journal, Kirkus and Booklist.

Jane is particularly interested in writer-for-hire and educational market projects. She has a background in English language education, with B.A. (history) and Masters in Library and Information Sciences degrees from the University of British Columbia, and a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

When she’s not writing or reading, Jane likes to listen to podcasts, cook, spend time with her family, and drink copious amounts of tea. She’s always excited to find her books in libraries!
