We’ve had a week of brilliant blue skies and life-giving sunshine, which inspired me to write a little poem in honour of Mr. Golden Sun, who has been much missed. It might not be among my finest pieces of poetry, but it’s certainly one of the most heartfelt. 😉
Locals have indeed been heading outside to play recently – the beaches are packed, the seawall is thronging, the local trails are buzzing. Summer in Canada can be heartbreakingly short, so it’s vital that you not waste a precious moment of it. ?
Please don’t leave us again for quite so long next time, Mr. Sun!! ?
What a fun, uplifting poem. Since we’ve had gloomy wet weather all week, I needed this dose of happy sunshine. Happy Weekend!
I’m happy to be able to share some of the sun! 🙂
Sometimes those days of “snow and rain and rain and snow” help you appreciate the sun even more. Here in the all too sunny (and hot!) desert I rejoice in cloudy days. Go figure. Enjoy the rays! =)
I remember having a student once from Saudi Arabia who absolutely revelled in every wet, grey, gloomy day – the wetter the better, he said! It was such a different climate for him, and such a change from what he was used to. It’s all a matter of perspective, isn’t it? 🙂
Being from Raincity, no wonder the sun inspires you to write!
Absolutely! The sun can be a like a unicorn, a rarely sighted creature worthy of great songs. 😉
I am on the edge of summer looking in,
and this poem and picture
makes we want to jump right in!
Yay! I’m glad I was able to share my summer joy! 🙂
The sun is enough some days.
So true. Sometimes just the feeling of the sun on your face, with green grass below you and blue sky above, can really be all that you need.
We have had one “summer day” this spring. The rest Mr. Sun has spent elsewhere. Sigh. Living here we try to get the most out of summer that we can. It is somehow shorter than I remember it being when I was a kid, too – but then years are shorter also. Loved your happy poem!
I’ve been feeling the same way, too – everything just seems so much shorter than it used to be, except for the winter, which just seems to get longer and longer.
I remember your writing about the endless rain, so I’m happy for you that you can now celebrate the sunshine. The poem is so light hearted and happy.
It’s amazing what a difference the blue sky can make! Just wait, though – in about a day or so we’ll all start complaining about the heat.. 😀
Your poems capture these moments like a diary! Happy you’ve got some sun, Jane 🙂
Me too! Of course, I’m about as pale as a piece of paper, so as much as my heart loves the skin, my skin doesn’t always feel the same way! ^_^
Well hallelujah! I had to make sure I had the right blog, Jane—all this talk of sunshine. 🙂 Enjoy playtime!
HA! I know! It’s such a departure for me, all this talk of sunshine!!! 😀
Sun? What’s that? She’ll show her face here soon, too, “oh, how we’ve shivered head to toe!”
We were feeling that way too! And as I go through these comments it’s raining again… 😉
I’m right with you in this poem! I have been so glad to see the sun on the few days she has decided to join us from behind the rain and clouds!
The sun can be so coy! Come on out already! 🙂
Huzzah for the sun! We don’t have quite the amount of rain and clouds that you do, but with all our humidity, summer skies tend to always be hazy. It’s a blessing when the air is dry enough for a blue-blue sky!
Oh, icky humidity! Glad we don’t get hot humid summers here, I’m too much of a wimp… 😉
This put a smile on my face, Jane, and gave me hope that drier, warmer weather might come…someday!
This is a delightful poem Jane and I would have fun illustrating it too, thanks! Glad the sun is shining out your way, and hope it sticks around for a while.
This poem is speaking to me, Jane! We’ve had an unusually gloomy, gray, and damp spring. The roses love it, but I think they’re the only fans of this weather.
