Wild One has been receiving so much love from Ontarian librarians! In December, Wild One was selected by the Toronto Public Library as one of their First and Best books for 2017, and now she’s been selected by the Ontario Library Association for their Best Bets 2017 list!
The OLA Best Bets list “evolved from a list put out by the Canadian Materials Committee of the Children’s Services Guild. A second annual list highlighting materials for young adults was added in 2006.
The OLA’s Best Bets Committee selects books on the basis of their literary/artistic merit as well as their appeal for children and young adults. Text and illustrations are of equal importance in picture books and information books.”
I’m beyond thrilled to know that my fellow librarians are enjoying Wild One, it really makes my heart sing to know that it’s being shared with children at libraries across the province. I was actually born in Ontario, though I moved out west as a small child, and my mother grew up just outside of Toronto, so I definitely feel a special connection with our most populous province.
And look at the incredible books on that list! I never thought I’d be included on a list with Ashley Spires, Lemony Snicket, Linda Bailey, the Fan brothers, and so many other incredible talented creators, sometimes I just have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming all this up.
I’m so, so happy to see all the love that Wild One has been receiving here in Canada, and I can’t wait to share her with my American friends soon – I hope you all love her as much as I do!
What super wonderful fabulous news, congratulations! I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Thank you!! It’s pretty darn exciting, if I do say so myself!! 🙂
OH! And hurray for fellow wet coast kidlit creators! 😀 I’d love to have you on the blog sometime, if you’re ever interested!! 😀
This is so inspiring!! I’m a writer that’s been writing forever but is just kind of starting to venture out into the world of it being a career and maybe getting published. And it’s all honestly just pretty overhwhelming like I don’t even know where to start.
But seeing stuff like this just makes me so happy and kind of re-lights my drive candle .
Congratulations!!
YES!! I’m so, so glad to hear that!! I’m EXACTLY the same way, I’ve been writing since I was little, but I never had the confidence to actually submit anything for publication until recently. My inner critics were just too overpowering. But I’m so glad I took the chance and got started, because publishing this little book has really helped fire up my self-confidence. You can do it! It might not be quick or easy, but you can absolutely do it, so keep that drive fire burning!!
