And we’re back with another jaunt across the mighty continent of North America in search of lovely libraries in wonderful places that have welcome Wild One into their collections! If you’d like to check out the previous entries in this series, you can check them out here, and here, and here, and here! It still absolutely boggles my mind that librarians in all these different cities have spent some of their extremely limited and always-shrinking budgets on my little book – it’s such an incredible honour, and I can only hope that my book brings readers a little bit of happiness!
I must admit to a bit of a selfish motivation with this post – I have three weeks’ vacation still to use this year, and I don’t know what to do with them! Posts like this let me create content and do vacation research all at the same time! Everybody wins!
Broward County Library, Florida
If you’ve visit Fort Lauderdale, you’ve been to Broward Country, Florida. White sandy beaches, sunshine, blue skies and cruise ship terminals! Don’t miss the Riverwalk District – galleries, shops, cafes and more in a lush, tropical oasis in the heart of the city!
Cleveland Public Library, Ohio
Cleveland rocks! Cleveland rocks! Cleveland promises “world-class experiences without the world-class ego”. Most of what I know about this city comes from Drew Carey, and one of my favourite bloggers, The Dainty Squid, a rainbow-haired, tattooed cat lady who lives and works in the city. Her Cleveland posts make me want to pack my suitcase and explore the city by bike, just like she does!
Upper Hudson Library System, New York
Albany is the state capital of New York, and was apparently the birth place of perforated toilet paper sheets. Hey, we all have to be famous for something! The city is also the oldest continuously-inhabited settlement in the original 13 states, and it’s seeped in history and stories to explore.
East Baton Rouge Parish Library
From the north all the way down to the south! We’re off to Louisiana, steamy, steamy Louisiana. Baton Rouge is the state capital, and the second largest city in the state. The city is teeming with live music venues where you can enjoy everything from jazz to blues to rock to country to zydeco and everything in between! The region is steeped in history, and there are dozens of museums, galleries and historic sites to visit, like the National Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) Museum, which actually sounds like a fascinating and potentially very moving experience!
Do you like Abraham Lincoln? The folks in Springfield, Illinois sure do! I’m not an American, so I’m the first to admit that, while I admire and respect Mr. Lincoln as much as the next person, I wouldn’t describe myself as a Lincoln devotee. But boy oh boy, a visit to the Illinois state capital might change that, because these folks sure do love the 16th president! The city’s tourism website boasts that “nowhere else can you find a more complete and authentic collection of Abraham Lincoln sites that let you step back in time to walk in the legendary president’s footsteps.” So if you’re looking for an opportunity to don your black top hat and celebrate old Abe with style, authenticity and variety, this is apparently the city for you!
Thanks so much for taking another trip across the mighty US of A with me as I explored different cities that have made Wild One part of their family! If you’ve seen my book in your local library, please let me know, it thrills me to no end. And don’t forget, my second book, A Good Day for Ducks, comes out this September!
