My second picture book, A Good Day for Ducks, is puddle-jumping its way into bookstores on September 21, 2018. To help get everyone in the mood for this splishy-splashy book, I’ve gathered together a few like-minded picture books that are all about making the best of a rainy day. Given the intense heat waves that have been sweeping throughout the world recently, consider this a reassurance that (in many cases, at least), cool rainy days will return eventually!
Even the gloomiest of days (or grumpiest of grownups) is no match for a fun pair of gumboots, a cute hood and a big smile!
This adorable adaptation of the classic song (originally performed by Gene Kelly in the film of the same name) will have you tapping and singing along. Time to invest in some colourful rain gear!
Rainy days are worm weather! Just like the brother and sister duo in A Good Day for Ducks, these kids discover all sorts of wormy friends who have their own way of spending a drippy droppy day.
A sudden summer thunderstorm has folks scrambling for cover in this jaunty, rhythmic picture book that city kids will relate to all too well!
This wordless picture book follows a child and his paper boat on a rainy day adventure.
Which rainy-day kids books are your favourites? With autumn just around the corner, it’s never too early to start prepping for those rain-themed storytimes! A Good Day for Ducks can be pre-ordered through Amazon, Chapters and Barnes and Noble, and, if you’re in the Lower Mainland, through Book Warehouse.
The art is gorgeous in all of these books – I do not know how that is possible, but there are some great artists out there for picture books!
I know! I feel like picture books have just been getting better and better!
I’m so excited for you, Jane! Congratulations on the new book. Your entire post reminds me of Eve Merriam’s splashy onomatopoeia poem, “Weather.”
Thanks so much! Oooh, yes!! What a great poem! And because we get soooo much rain here, we need to learn how to still have fun, even when it’s pouring. 🙂
