I’ve written about Jane Cabrera numerous times on the blog, and with good reason – her books really are fantastic. I try to tag all of my posts, so if you’re curious to read some of my previous posts mentioning Cabrera’s books, just type her name into the blog’s search bar, and they should all pop up!
I really appreciate Cabrera’s sweet characters, warm colours, and rhythmic, lyrical texts. Some of my favourites of hers are her adaptations of classic nursery rhymes, which I enjoy sharing with families at my storytimes – it’s so lovely when all the caregivers join in the song! She often puts a sweet little twist on the classic rhyme – in her version of The Wheels on the Bus, for example, the driver of the bus and all their passengers are animals! Rhythm, rhyme and repetition are like the holy trinity of early literacy, and all are key cornerstones of any learning strategy. Thankfully, many of Cabrera’s books offer all three, and in spades.
Here are a few of my favourite Jane Cabrera books, which are just perfect for use in your baby or toddler storytimes:
Singable Picture Books:
Other Books:
These books aren’t singable picture books, but they have lovely rhythmic texts that work beautifully when chanted aloud at storytime.
Cabrera’s picture books are perfect for bedtime, or for wiggly older babies who aren’t quite ready to sit through a longer story, as they are typically short and snappy, just the way a good book for the littlest readers should be.
If you work with littles, I highly, highly recommend checking out a few Jane Cabrera titles!
