I’ve got a special treat for you this week – we’re doing a family edition of the ever-popular “It’s Monday – What Are You Reading?” post! I’m going to be sharing not only what I’ve been reading, but what Daddy and Baby have been reading, too!
Mummy is reading The Outlaws of Ennor by Michael Jecks
I’ve read a few of Michael Jecks’ medieval mysteries before, and I really enjoy them. Jecks obviously does a lot of research, and his novels are filled with interesting historical details. You don’t need to read them in any particular order, as Jecks does a nice job of catching you up on all the details you need to follow along. I’ve only just started this novel (I’m literally on something like page 5), so I can’t comment on this novel specifically, but given how much I’ve enjoyed his previous novels, I have high hopes!
Daddy is reading A Kingdom Besieged by Raymond E. Feist
I have to thank Mr. Feist for almost magically turning my book-averse hubby into a voracious, insatiable reader who burns through books faster than I can find them. Daddy long thought of himself as a “non-reader” – he read from time to time, but never really found any books that engaged or excited him. Until he discovered the epic high fantasy novels of Raymond E. Feist, that is. Now he’s hooked, and thankfully Mr. Feist is incredibly prolific. This particular novel is the first book in the “Chaoswar Saga”, which is a continuation of Feist’s Riftwar series. According to Daddy, you really should read these books in order, as each trilogy or saga builds on the events of the previous ones.
Baby is reading Baby Goes to Market by Atinuke
I’ve mentioned this book before , but I have to mention it again, because this has quickly become one of Daddy’s favourite storytime books, and he’s been reading it with Baby pretty much every day for the past few weeks. I won a copy of Baby Goes to Market all the way back in 2017, long before we had our own baby, and it survived countless bookshelf declutters and purges. Somehow I knew I had to keep this one in my collection, just in case I had a little someone to share it with, and we’re all so glad I did.
So, what have you been reading?
This week we’re linking up with The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, Unleashing Readers and Book Date– why not head on over and check them out?
My husband is a non reader, I love that you found a way to convert yours.
Wishing you a great reading week!
My dad was a huge reader, but he would only ever read nonfiction. Sometimes it’s all about finding that perfect genre!
How wonderful that you hooked your hubby with some great fantasy books. A happy reading house!
I’m a librarian at home and at work! 🙂
A medieval mystery sounds fun! and I’ve enjoyed Feist’s book as well- I read several of his earlier ones and they were fun.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
We’ve got quite the fantasy collection going in our home library!
Nice looking books. I’m glad your husband found something that he enjoys reading. I read a fair amount of fantasy but haven’t tried Feist yet. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
It’s amazing what finding the right book can do for even the most reluctant readers!
Sounds like you all are reading some wonderful books, especially Baby!
We make sure to read with Baby every day! I have a pretty big picture book collection, but Daddy has his definite favourites. 🙂
A few years ago, I had the privilege of traveling to Tanzania, Africa. The markets are very different from anything we see in the states. Does this book show pictures of different markets in difference places?
It’s actually set in a very specific area, southwestern Nigeria, where the author was born!
I’ve never seen Baby Goes To Market. I’m always searching for good books for my niece, so I’ll have to look that one up.
It’s super sweet, and has the brightest, most colourful and vibrant illustrations, definitely a fun book for little ones.
Baby Goes to Market is one that my grandkids loved too. I’m not a high fantasy fan, but love mysteries so will be checking out Michael Jecks. The VPL has many of his books but only one audiobook. One of my nieces husbands was not a reader until he discovered fantasy and high fantasy. Now we never see him without a book!
That sounds just like me hubs – he went from never reading to never NOT reading!! Just goes to show the power of finding the right book!
Ah, Baby Goes to Market is one I’ll need to read, ready for some babies that might come into my life. Sounds as if you’re having fun with your baby, Jane!
I put Baby Goes to Market on my To Read list a long time ago, but somehow I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. I’ll definitely have to take a look and see if it’s at my library. Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
I’ll definitely have to look for Baby Goes to Market! Thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Oooh, I’m going to head off to see if we have Baby Goes to Market here, locally. Thanks for the shares, Jane!
