Welcome back to our (somewhat) weekly roundup of reading adventures, friends! Here’s what we’ve been reading and listening to this week:
Last week we visited a new library, and left with a pretty awesome CD haul. I love singing with baby, but I feel the need to expand my knowledge of children’s songs, which is where these CDs come in.
As an ’80s baby I grew up with the classic children’s songs of Raffi– who doesn’t love Baby Beluga and Bananaphone? I loved these songs as a child, and I’m looking forward to sharing them with my own baby. Did you know that Raffi is Canadian? Just another gift from us to you, world. Emily Arrow is a more recent addition to my storytime repertoire – she creates beautiful songs inspired by picture books, and I highly recommend her albums. It’s a dream of mine as an author to have one of my books turned into an Emily Arrow song one day!
We’ve been reading Tad Hills’ Duck and Goose books a bit recently – we’ve got the original Duck and Goose book in board book format, and it’s super cute. A duck and a goose find a colourful spotted egg, and proceed to fight over what to do with it – but, what if it’s not actually an egg after all? Both birds are adorable, and I’m looking forward to adding more books in the series to our home library collection.
Also – this is how we do story time at home these days. Our baby has become a crawler, and because he does not want to sit still for a story anymore we’ve had to get creative when it comes to reading together. Right now that means sitting down in baby’s play area with a book and letting him wiggle around while we read to him – he’s absorbing valuable language even if he’s trying to nibble on Daddy’s sock at the same time. 😉
Daddy and Mummy don’t have anything new to share this week, as we’re both still working our way slowly through the same books we shared last time.
Hope you have a great week, everyone!
We’re linking up this week with The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, Book Date and Unleashing Readers.
I remember Raffi, but for my kids it was all mostly The Wiggles (the original four)
Wishing you a great reading week
I have never looked at my library’s CD section. I bet my niece would love some actual music. Right now, she dances to TV commercials. Have a great week!
The first CD’s I got for my kids when they were babies were Raffi CD’s!
Enjoy the new songbooks. Come see me week here. Happy reading!
Emily Arrow is wonderful. Did you watch her music videos shot at the bookstore I work at?
These books look so cute, Jane! Ah, now that baby has become a crawler, I bet life is quite different. I recall one of my babies didn’t crawl for so long, but she liked to roll everywhere. And it was just as difficult to chase her down. LOL Like your new header — I almost didn’t recognize your blog! 🙂
Tactile books can be good for that age as the engage the other senses with the words. See what I read Girl Who Reads
