The past few days have been a bit emotionally taxing for me, as I’m sure they have for everyone, and I’ve just struggled to find the energy to write. Today I’m going to be playing catch up with this mug project of mine – lucky you, you get two mugs in a single post! I have been posting regularly on my Instagram account, though, so be sure to check me out as @janekwhittingham if you’d like to follow on with my #quarantinemugproject AND my new #quarantinebookproject, where I’m showcasing a different book from my home library every day! I’ve started with my nonfiction collection and will be working through every book I own, genre by genre.
This mug was part of baby’s first Christmas present for daddy. It’s particularly funny because daddy has no interest in anything social media, and wouldn’t touch a hashtag with a ten foot pole. I think we picked it up at HomeSense, but I can’t be sure. But we sure do love daddy!
And check out that beautiful handmade goomba! My partner and I have so many cute nicknames for each other – yes, we’re one of those obnoxiously mushy-gushy couples, and one of his nicknames for me is “goomba”, which is a character from the Mario Nintendo video games. Well, my special someone actually commissioned a local crafts person to make me this adorable, wonderfully crafted stuffed goomba. I will treasure him always.
And this mug is definitely the most colourful, most striking mug in my otherwise blandly neutral collection. My partner used to travel across the States for work, before the bottom fell out of the world, and on a work trip to Washington, D.C. he visited the Smithsonian Museum of African Art and picked up this beautiful statement mug for my collection. It’s like nothing I would ever pick for myself, and that’s what makes it so special, and so emblematic of our relationship – I am the cautious one, the safe one, the one homebody who doesn’t take risks or chances. He’s the more curious one, the less anxious one, the one who doesn’t overthink everything and believes that in the end things will work out somehow. So, I pick safe, neutral mugs, and he grabs the most gorgeous riot of colour and life.
Tell me – are you a neutral-person, or are you drawn to stunning colours?
