I love tea. I mean, I really, really love tea. You know the way some people can’t function before they’ve had their first morning cup of coffee? That’s me and tea. I’m just a blurry-eyed shambling mess until I’ve had those first few sips of hot, strong, milky tea. In fact, I’m enjoying my second cup of tea of the morning as I type this up – after a few rounds in the microwave (living that #momlife).
I’m not particularly fussy when it comes to the teas I drink – I like strong, richly flavoured black teas. Any English breakfast, Irish breakfast or orange pekoe will likely do the trick.
Recently, however, I discovered what I think I can safely say is my favourite tea of all time. It’s robust. It’s strong. It’s deep and dark and flavourful. And best of all? It’s extremely affordable! It’s India’s favourite tea (according to the box, anyway) – the only and only TATA TEA!
Oh friends, if you like a strong cup of black tea that can hold its own with a splash of milk, I urge you to try this brand. It’s good. It’s really, really good. It’s so good that I might have purchased three boxes of it on a recent desperate grocery shop. A South Asian friend of mine told me that it’s the tea she uses to make her chai, because the strong flavour pairs well with spices and sweetness (and also because it’s cheap as chips, which is a definite selling point for me as well).
The one drawback I’ve found is that it isn’t always easy to find TATA tea in stores. I’ve found it at my local Wholesale Club and apparently Walmart might have it for sale online? Check your local Asian grocery store, too, especially if you live in an area with a large South Asian population. Bonus points if you can buy it from a local small business!
You might think a post extolling the virtues of my new favourite brand of tea might be a bit strange for an otherwise writing and book-focused blog, and if so, you’re definitely new to these parts. I’ve written about tea several times before – including this post, and this one, and this one, too. Oh, and also this one. A blog cannot live on books and writing alone, after all!
Have you tried TATA tea? Do you love it as much as I do? Or do you have another favourite brand of tea? I’d love to hear your favourites!
I love tea. Like, 3-5 mugs a day LOVE. Oh, and picture books (also 3-5 a day if I can!).
Recently switched from Chai to Earl Grey, then from Earl Grey to ORANGE PEKOE. Yum!
I would love to try this TATA, alas, unlikely to find it on my wee island… but I’ll try!
The all Organic Orange Pekoe blend from good ol’ Red Rose will have to tide me over.
Next time you’re back in the Lower Mainland! And oh yes, I agree with you, you can never have too many picture books! 🙂
