It’s been a while since I did a Writing Wednesday post, and the reason is pretty simple – I haven’t really been doing that much writing lately. I have a bunch of manuscripts I’ve been tinkering with here and there, but I can’t remember the last time I started a new writing project. I do have some updates to share on the writing front, though, even if they aren’t anything too exciting.
I have two picture books scheduled for release in 2022, and they’re in different stages of development. One is in the very early stages of editing, while the other is, I hope, finished and ready to move on to illustrations. My editor sent me a few potential illustrators to get my thoughts on, which was incredibly exciting – all of the illustrators were insanely talented, and I would be thrilled and honoured to have any of them work on my story. It will probably be a few months at least before I find out who the final illustrator will be, and I can’t wait to be able to share that exciting news with you, so stay tuned!
I’ve also starting dipping my toes into the process of looking for a literary agent, which is something I’ve been reluctant to do for a long time. For some reason I find the process of querying agents really intimidating, far more so than submitting manuscripts to editors at publishing houses. I’m not sure why that is – I guess I feel that because there are so few agents out there, they must be very choosy with their projects, and my silly little stories aren’t good enough to make the cut. Anxiety strikes again! But since I probably won’t be going back to work any time soon, what better time to challenge myself and tackle something that I’ve been putting off for years? I’ve only queried a handful of agents so far, but it’s a step in the right direction, I think. Keep your fingers crossed for me, friends, because having an agent could open up all sorts of exciting new avenues for me as an author.
Do you have any writing updates to share? Have you been working on a new project, or are you stuck in a bit of a writing funk, like me? Here’s wishing us all a splash of inspiration, a dose of energy and a pinch of luck!
