Times are tough right now, for just about everyone. Small business in particular have been facing challenge after challenge as they struggle to survive in an already competitive market, and the cancellation of craft markets and summer fairs has hit small makers hard. In order to do my little bit to help support small business owners and creatives, I thought I’d do a little series here on the blog called Window Shopping, where I highlight some beautiful items that you might be interested in adding to your life. As always, I am in no way affiliated with any of these sellers, and receive no compensation in any way for anything I include, nor am I recommending anything based on first-hand experience – these are just pretty things made by lovely people!
I’m starting this series with one of my favourite items to collect – mugs! As a devoted tea consumer, mugs are an important part of my daily life, and it’s a scientific* fact that all beverages taste better when served in a beautiful mug. These mugs are more expensive than anything you’ll purchase at your local big box store, but it’s worth noting that they are lovingly handcrafted, and with the right care will bring you joy for years to come.
* may not actually be scientific or a fact
I am on a definite pink kick, and this gorgeous speckled hand-made ceramic mug is a Millennial-pink dream come true.
Funfetti mugs! How can you not feel happier with a beautiful sprinkle-themed mug like this in your life? The colours are so happy and spring-like, each one is a darling work of art.
Kitty! Two of my favourite things in life, cats and tea, combined into one stylish and practical package. I think perhaps that’s why I love mugs so much – they’re both attractive and practical, which makes me feel a little less guilty about owning so many of them.
Missing your office buddies now that so many of us are working from home these days? Why not add this darling little manatee to your home office to provide a bit of cheer and company? This maker’s shop is filled with incredibly lovely little creature-shaped mugs and planters, and it was a real challenge to pick just one to highlight in this list.
Lastly, we’re going super-local, with this beautiful celebration of the wild and wonderful Vancouver Island. My parents lived on the island for a while, and I have relatives that still live there. It’s an incredible place to explore and travel and experience, and I can’t wait until I can get back out there.
And there you have it, the first in what will hopefully be a bit of an ongoing series where I share my love for all this handmade and small business. Did any of my selections catch your eye? Have you been trying to shop small and local during this tumultuous period?
