My goodness, when was the last time I participated in this lovely blogging group? I can’t even remember! As I mentioned in a previous post, life has been BUSY recently, as I’ve been slogging my way through a pretty intense online course. To my immense relief, I submitted my final assignment on Sunday, so I’m finally free and ready to get back into blogging and writing (probably more of the former than the latter, but time will tell).
As for what I’ve been reading recently….well, there have been an awful lot of truck books in my life as of late. Little mister is OBSESSED with all this wheeled, which is quite fascinating, since neither of his parents have really pushed any traditional “boy” interests. In fact, his daddy couldn’t care less about cars or trucks, and never showed much interest in them. But this little fellow can’t pass a vehicle without frantically pointing and reaching and squealing with delight, and so we’ve amassed quite a collection of truck and car themed books.
One of our new favourites is a collection of vehicle-themed poetry called Motor Goose, by Rebecca Colby. I found a copy at my local Book Warehouse location, and I swear I’ve read it at bedtime every night since we brought it home. Even when I tried to hide it in the living room….
The poems are all based on traditional Mother Goose rhymes, though some are more familiar and better known than others (“Dr. Foster”, for example, is one that I didn’t recognize). Oh my goodness me, if you have a little one who is fascinated by things that go, I can’t recommend this poetry collection enough!
Another book that’s been on repeat recently has been the Christmas edition of the popular Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction series – Construction Site on Christmas Night.
I think we’ve collected every book in the series, but this one we kept hidden until the beginning of the month to keep it a bit special. The construction trucks are building a special building, and are rewarding with a fitting selection of gifts as recognition of their hard work. This is a nice choice if you celebrate a secular Christmas, and there’s no mention of Santa, which I know is important to some families. I particularly like A G Ford’s illustrations here, there’s a wonderful snowy softness to them that makes them feel quite special. Another fine choice for a construction truck-mad young reader!
Have you been reading the same book(s) on repeat lately? Anyone else starting to go a little bit mad? I suppose it’s all part of raising little bookworms!
Hopefully everyone is healthy and safe and well, and wishing you all a very merry Christmas (should you celebrate the holiday) and all the very best for the holiday season.
I believe this is my first time visiting your blog—welcome back to #IMWAYR! (It’s certainly always fun for me to find new, interesting bloggers!) Congrats on finishing your online course—that’s a huge accomplishment! I remember my sibling used to be fascinated by construction equipment when they were little (who knew there were so many John Deere DVDs?), and I can imagine they would have loved these picture books! Thanks for the great post—I’m excited to see more!
(P.S. I noticed in your previous post that your blog accidentally sent out many random emails, and that is literally my worst nightmare—I am always terrified to update my blog posts because I don’t want them sending out again, even though that has literally never happened!)
I’ll definitely be loading up on those John Deere dvds soon enough! 😀
And oh my goodness, that was no fun! I was uploading a new template for my website, and apparently it had all these sample blog posts to show off the different layouts and features, which it went ahead and posted! I was so confused, tech is definitely not my strong suit, ha! At least the new template looks pretty…. 😀
It’s nice to see you back, Jane. I don’t have anyone reading these kinds of books anymore, but I love the ‘Construction Site’ books anyway & this one is a new one to me. Wishing you a wonderful holiday with family & that little one!
Thank you, Linda, it’s lovely to visit everyone’s little book nooks again. 🙂 A very wonderful end to the year to you and yours, too!
You have to love those books that become nightly favorites! I especially love the cover art of Construction Site on Christmas Night. Thanks so much for sharing, Jane! (Sorry for the late comment… I’m running a week behind on making the rounds).
