I have a lot of clothes. I mean, the term “a lot” is pretty subjective, and what one person considers a lot, another person might not bat an eye at. I have a very small closet in my condo without a lot of space, and it definitely feels fit to burst with clothes.
Inspired by Andrea at Five Starred Life, I’ve been taking a hard look at all the clothes hanging in my closet. How many of these items do I actually wear on a regular basis? Are there any things that might find better homes elsewhere? It feels like I tend to wear the same few pieces over and over again, but in the interest of science I wanted to try and track my outfits and see exactly what I gravitate towards and which clothes really do spark joy.
And that brings me to my new Instagram account! On @frumpyjane I’ll be documenting my daily outfits (as often as I can remember) to see just what I wear, and which clothes aren’t getting the love they deserve. If you’re curious to see what a casual, chubby, frugal mom with a very busy toddler wears every day, feel free to check it out! I have long been a thrifting devotee, so you’ll likely see a lot of thrifted items highlighted there. Thrifting makes me so, so happy, and I miss it so very much. I love the thrill of the hunt, the surprise discoveries, the incredible prices and the knowledge that I’m saving clothes from the landfill and giving them new life. Of all the things that the pandemic has taken from me, thrifting is one of the things I miss the most!
I know this is a bit of a departure from my usual writing/bookish content, but being minimalist, frugal and thoughtful as a consumer is something that I’m very interested in, and an aspect of my life that I’m hoping to work on moving forward.
Oh, and as for the user name…My fashion sense was once unpleasantly described as “frumpy”, but now that I’m comfortably in my 30’s and thankfully don’t mind what other people think about something as superficial as my clothing choices, I’ve decided to embrace that label and proudly flaunt my frumpy fashion sense!
