It’s been far too long since I’ve participated in Poetry Friday, but what better time than the present to jump back in! This week’s host is the wonderful The Miss Rumphius Effect – be sure to check out all the inspiring bloggers sharing their love of poetry for young people in this weekly blogging roundup.
This week I thought that rather than share a specific poem, I’d highlight a poet, and one with whom I have a professional connection – fellow Canadian poet (and one of my picture book editors!) Erin Alladin. In her own words, Erin (she/her/hers) is an “author, editor, ecology enthusiast, and regenerative gardening evangelist”, and given my own passion for getting kids outside and experiencing nature, you can easily see why her work would appeal to me so much.
One of Erin’s picture books, Outside You Notice, is one of our current favourites. It blends lyrical poetry with fascinating factual tidbits to create an engaging celebration of the wonders that can be found right outside our front door.
Erin shares some of her poetry on her Instagram – I’ve selected one of my favourites of hers, that I think a lot of us creative folks can relate to! This feeling of having to create, lest we simply burst.
I do hope you’ll check out Erin’s work, especially her picture books, they’re really beautiful!
Have a great week, poetry-loving internet friends.
