Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given that I am the Raincity Librarian, I’m a big library user and part of a family of library users. We read a lot, and the library allows us to fulfill our reading needs without breaking the bank. I love books, but I don’t feel the need to own them, and I certainly don’t believe anyone needs to spend money to be a reader/writer/book blogger.
This week’s library picks fall into two main categories: Jim Butcher novels for my hubby, and vehicle-themed reads for the kiddo.
My partner recently picked up a Jim Butcher novel at a local used book store, and was immediately hooked. He has been voraciously devouring Butcher’s entire bibliography, and the speed with which he has been working through the Dresden Files series has made me even more thankful for my local library. Purchasing all of these novels, even second hand, would add up pretty quickly. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – if you’re trying to cut down on your expenses, the library is absolutely the place for you. Provided you return your books on time and don’t destroy/lose anything you’ve borrowed, the prices at your local library just can’t be beat.
These week’s check outs:
I’ve already got the next five books in the Dresden Files series on hold! How can authors be this prolific? I can’t imagine writing a single novel, let alone putting out a novel pretty much every single year. The mind boggles!
Our little reader is besotted with trucks, particularly monster trucks. He can’t get enough of them. Bedtime has been dominated by truck-themed books, both fiction and nonfiction. This recent library pick wasn’t a big hit, as it didn’t include nearly enough monster trucks, so it will be popped into the return slot pretty quickly.
Lightning McQueen is a bit of a hero in our household, which is a bit funny given the fact that the kiddo has never actually seen any of the Cars movies. He’s learned the names of the many vehicular characters from the various Cars books we’ve borrowed from the library, including this simplified account of the plot of the third movie. Lightning McQueen, with the help of his trainer Cruz Ramirez, must stage a comeback after a terrifying on-track accident. It’s your typical comeback sports story, but the nice thing about 3.5 years old is that everything is new and exciting, even well-worn storyteller tropes.
I haven’t picked up anything for myself from the library recently, as I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump over the holidays, though hopefully I’ll be able to find something appealing on the next library visit.
I’m excited to be participating in this library-themed linkup, and look forward to sharing some of my library hauls over the course of the year. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again – your tax payer dollars fund your local library, so get your money’s worth and make 2023 the year you become library regulars!
What a great family of library users! I hope your next library visit leads you to something enticing and out of your current reading slump (those are always frustrating).
