ANIMALS MOVE is a 2022 Cybils Award Finalist in the Board Book category!
The Cybils “works to recognize books written for children and young adults that combine both the highest literary merit and popular appeal” and as one of the founders perfectly put it, “…between the brussels sprouts of literary merit and the gummy bears of popularity contests, we are the organic chicken nuggets–both yummy and nutritious!”
There are nine categories, which range from board books to speculative young adult fiction – it covers quite a range of materials for young people!
It feels like ANIMALS MOVE really is the little book that could, published by a small Canadian publishing house, coming out without much fanfare, only to slowly and steadily find its way onto best of lists by the end of the year. I am so, so very proud of this little book of mine, and thrilled to see it being appreciated by my fellow kidlit aficionados.
Oh, and a funny little aside – is ANIMALS MOVE fiction or nonfiction? At my library it’s catalogued as fiction, but here it’s been described as “a phenomenal introduction to nonfiction texts for the youngest audiences” – so, is it fiction, or nonfiction? Either way, I’m just incredibly thrilled it’s finding a good home in so many public libraries, so a giant thank you to every librarian who’s added it to their collections, wherever it might be shelved.
