I rarely get to do storytimes anymore, so when a branch needs someone to cover a program, I’m thrilled to jump in, even at a moment’s notice!
Here’s what I did with a very young, very wiggly group:
HELLO SONG: Hello, friends!
WAKE UP SONG: When Cows Get Up in the Morning (with puppets)
BOOK 1: Dear Zoo (abridged)
HAND RHYMES: Open Shut Them / Rolly Polly
BOOK 2: Do Cows Meow (abridged)
ACTION SONGS: Zoom Zoom Zoom (+ Far Far Far + Fun Fun Fun) / The Elevator Song
COOL DOWN SONG: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
GOODBYE SONG: Goodbye, friends
I abridged both of the books I shared today because this group was so little and so wiggly that we just had to get moving! It was actually a great teachable moment for the caregivers, as I was able to share that sometimes kids just aren’t in the mood for stories, and that little ones in particular can have very short attention windows, which is absolutely ok! Children learn through song and movement, too.
What a fantastic way to cap off a week!
