Alas, this was my last family story time for the foreseeable future, as I was covering them for a colleague. I’m going to miss this delightful group! Here’s what we did today:
Welcome Song: Hello, Friends!
Wake Up Song: I Wake Up my Hands
Book One: Clip Clop
Songs/Rhymes: When Cows Get Up in the Morning / Rolly Polly / Open Shut Them
Book Two: Cows in the Kitchen
Movement Songs: Sleeping Bunnies / Zoom Zoom Zoom / Elevator Song / If you’re Happy and You Know It
Good Bye Song: Goodbye, Friends!
I shortened Cows in the Kitchen because I find that it runs a little bit long, and because it was the second books, my kiddos were starting to get a bit restless. I never hesitate to cut a book short if I feel like we need to get up and move around, and it’s a good literacy “sprinkle” to share with families – never feel like you have to force kids to sit still and read together if they’re just not in the mood!
I hadn’t sung Sleeping Bunnies with this group before, and I regret that decision, because WOW was it a HIT! We sang it together three times (the final time we were sleeping dinosaurs who stomp, stomp, stomped, in recognition of a sweet little mini paleontologist in the group), and they probably could have just kept going for the rest of the session, they were so into it.
I’m going to miss doing these weekly storytimes – as much as I adore working with older kids, I definitely do miss the rush of working with toddlers and preschools!
