Lots of fun at storytime today – I was able to fill in for a colleague today, and it was so much fun to be back in the groove. Here’s what we did!
Hello Song: Hello, Friends!
Wake Up Songs: When Cows Get Up in the Morning / I Wake Up My Hands
Book 1: BEAR HAS A BELLY
Hand Songs / Rhymes: Roly Poly / Open Shut Them
Book 2: THE SEALS ON THE BUS
Movement Songs : Zoom Zoom Zoom / Head and Shoulders / The Elevator Song
Cool Down Song: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Goodbye Song: Goodbye, Friends!
I don’t worry about themes when I plan my storytimes, but I do try to focus on transitions, and how I can make them as smooth and easy as possible for the young children I work with. Sometimes that includes creating a bit of a storytime narrative – for example, after we’ve zoomed off to the moon, we need to check our bodies to make sure we arrived in one piece, which leads us into head and shoulders, knees and toes. Then, we need to get back down from the moon – we could take the stairs, but I’d rather take a magical…elevator! And, on to the elevator song we go. Finally, back on earth, we look back up to the moon, and admire all the twinkling stars we were just dancing through.
Can you tell I’m also a bit of a writer? 😉
