This is a ridiculously easy craft, and the end results are beautiful!

All you need to make these beautiful “stained glass”-inspired bookmarks is strips of thicker paper like cardstock or cardboard for the bookmarks (I actually repurposed old file folders, for a more sustainable craft), tissue paper torn into small pieces, Mod Podge or watered-down white school glue, and paint brushes! You can also add small beads and string/ribbon as finishing touches, if you’d like.

The trick for successful decoupage is to use thin coats of the Mod Podge or glue, and to work in small sections, because the glue dries quickly (which is part of the appeal of this craft – the kids can easily take home their dried bookmarks). Apply a thin layer of glue, stick on a piece of tissue paper, add another thin layer of glue, layer on another piece of tissue paper, and repeat as desired! Finish things off with a thin top coat of Mod Podge or glue to seal everything in. Then, if, desired, punch a hole in the top and attach a ribbon and some beads, and you’re done!
We have a program at our library where people can make cards or bookmarks to be delivered to housebound individuals with their home book delivery, so the kids all made several bookmarks each, some to take home and some to donate.
Another very successful afternoon Kids Club in the books!
