Transitions are difficult, butas anyone who works in early education or childcare knows, songs can make them just a little bit easier.
My colleague shared this fun and very useful transition song with me this week, and I’ve already started using it in my programs!
Sung to the tune of Do You Know the Muffin Man?, it goes like this:
Do you have the colour red?
The colour red, the colour red?
Do you have the colour red?
Put it in the bag!
This is a fantastic song to sing when it’s time to collect shakers, scarves, felt pieces, or other small items that might be challenging for little ones to part with. Repeat the song with different colours until all the items are returned, and you’re ready to move on to the next part of your program!
Do the kids at your programs struggle with transitions, or putting things away? Do you have any favourite transition songs?
