My Pajama Press board books are designed for storytime – ANIMALS MOVE, BEAR HAS A BELLY, and BUNNY LOVES BEANS are really meant to be read aloud with a crowd!
I’ve found some amazing rainbow-themed songs that would pair beautifully with BUNNY LOVES BEANS in a colourful storytime, so grab some felts, scarves or shakers, and here we go!
COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW (to the tune of Hurry Hurry Drive the Firetruck)
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet (x 3)
These are the colours of the rainbow!
DO YOU KNOW THE COLOUR RED? (to the tune of Do You Know the Muffin Man?)
Do you know the colour red, colour red, colour red?
Do you know the colour red? Wave it in the air!
If you sing this song with scarves, encourage kids to wave the corresponding scarf in the air.
Do you know the colour red? Put it on the board!
If you sing this song with felt pieces, encourage kids to put the corresponding felt piece on the felt board.
Do you know the colour red? Put it in the bag!
You can use this as a clean-up song when putting away shakers or rhythm sticks, and encourage kids to put the correspinding items in the bag/bin.
I’ve been using this song in storytimes for ages now, and I love it! I even turned it into a felt story! It’s particularly fitting for a BUNNY LOVES BEANS storytime, because it includes both colours and healthy foods!
Let’s go for a drive in my yellow car.
Let’s go for a drive, we won’t go too far.
Let’s go for a drive in my yellow car.
Let’s go buy some bananas!
MORE RAINBOW GOODNESS!
One of my amazing colleagues has a blog called Storytime Ukulele where they share a bunch of fun, easy-to-play songs that are just perfect for storytime! They’ve shared some fun rainbow-themed songs that would be perfect for a BUNNY LOVES BEANS storytime, or an amazing Pride storytime! Some of my favourites are:
COLOURS OVER YOU – which would work beautifully with a colourful parachute
RAINBOW DANCERS – which would be such a fun action song to do with scarves
MAKE A RAINBOW – which would be a great interactive felt activity
Do you have any favourite rainbow-themed songs or activities?
