The Toronto Public Library, North America’s largest and busiest library system, offers a free, fun virtual reading program for families called 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, in which families are encouraged to read a thousand books together from birth to the start of kindergarten. To quote the library, “Reading together helps build a lifelong love of reading and develops critical early literacy skills in children.” As a librarian, author and mother, I couldn’t agree more.

To help families get started, they’ve created a list of 100 recommended books, and wouldn’t you know it, one of my titles made the list!

I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised to see Animals Move pop up, as TPL has shown it some love in the past, including it on their 2022 First and Best list.

Thanks for all the love, Toronto – perhaps one day I’ll get back east again, and be able to see my book on library shelves in person!
