It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date, and adapted by Kellee at Unleashing Readers and Jen at Teach Mentor Texts with a children’s/YA focus. The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. These weekly roundups are a great way to discover new blogs and bloggers, share titles, and add to your ever-growing to-read list.
I’ve been doing plenty of reading and writing in the past two weeks!
August is Australia month over on The Book Wars, so I’ve been catching up on some fantastic picture books by Australian authors – so far I’ve written about Graeme Base’s visually stunning alphabet book Animalia and Jackie French’s charming Diary of a Wombat, and I’ll have plenty of other posts coming up during the month. Make sure to follow The Book Wars if you’re not already – there are great bookish posts popping up all the time!
Inspired by a recent trip to Vancouver Island I’ve launched a new series on my blog called Beautiful British Columbia : A Reading Staycation, where I’ll be sharing children’s books from British Columbian authors/illustrators! I’m so excited to share some local children’s literature with everyone, and celebrate my beautiful home province. I started with one of my favourite series, Binky the Space Cat – be sure to check back during the month for more great Canadian books!
Finally, we had another round of #diversekidslit in the children’s lit world, and there’s still time to add your diverse children’s book posts to the link up and check out all the inspiring and amazing posts.
Loads of fun reading and writing, and still more to come. Can’t wait to see what everyone else has been reading!
I think your British Columbia feature sounds awesome, that’s supposed to be such a beautiful area and I’d be curious to see what you come up with- books or pics (or both). Have a great week!
Thanks so much for stopping by! It is indeed a beautiful part of the world, we even have “Beautiful British Columbia” as the slogan on our license plates. 😉
I am between books at the moment, I need to get to the charity shop to buy the next one.
I enjoyed reading your post.
I am such a sucker for charity shops and second-hand book stores – I never buy new books anymore, I only buy them used! Hope you find something good to read 🙂
I’ll have to get some more of the Binky the Space Cat books. I have one, but I actually didn’t realize it is a series.
They’re pretty fun! 🙂
Sounds like you are having a busy week and really connecting with other bloggers. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
Blogging is perfect for a naturally shy, nerdy person like me, it allows me to connect with fellow booklovers in a pretty low-stress way – tailor-made for me! 🙂
I like the idea of having a round up of books on a link. Your BC one sounds fun!
Be sure to come back and check out the books – turns out we’ve got a lot of talent here in BC!
I wish I had time to do all those link-ups Jane, but will try to follow what you share at least. Happy Reading!
Thanks, Linda! 🙂
Binky! I had no idea there were Canadian connections. Fun!
Yes, we Canadians tend to be like ninjas, stealthily infiltrating American markets with our creative output 😀
I’ve been meaning to read Binky. What a cool sounding blog idea. Can’t wait to meet more Canadian kidlit creators!
Thanks Earl, I can’t wait to showcase some great local talent! 🙂
I am also excited to follow you BC Lit blog. I keep meaning to highlight more Canadian work, but get caught up in the frenzy of other titles. BTW, since we live in the same city, I also hope someday we can meet up.
That would be wonderful!! It’s so nice to discover fellow BC bloggers. 🙂
I think it’s terrific that you’re using your blog to highlight authors from your region. I’ve not read Binky The Space Cat, but it’s on my To Read List! Looking forward to seeing the other titles you review! Have a great week!
Thanks for stopping by! I was actually surprised by all the talent that comes out of my home province (don’t tell anybody but I was actually born in Ontario – thankfully my parents had to good sense to move us out west, ha!) 🙂
I love that I can travel from British Columbia all the way down under from your reading. I look forward to learning about many new to me authors and books.
Aren’t books just the best? It’s like you can travel the world without leaving your chair – though at the moment leaving the wet coast sounds pretty appealing, it’s just chucking it down with rain today, UGH…
We did a list of books from other countries, and I was surprised to realize how few Australian books I’ve read–I look forward to hearing about some good ones 🙂
Happy reading this week!
I never normally take note of where an author’s from – to be honest, I can rarely even remember the names of authors, I just focus on the book itself, so this has been a very interesting experience. Turns out I was reading a bunch of Australian picture book authors without even realizing it!
I love that you are focussing on BC titles (being another Vancouverite) but also LOVE Australia authors and illustrators!
Hurray for Vancouver-based bloggers! And Aussies are pretty good too, I guess… (my dad’s from New Zealand, ha!) 🙂
Yay for BC authors and illustrators. I will enjoy hearing about them. 🙂
Thanks, I’ve really been enjoying reading and writing about them! 🙂
Australia month sounds great – I have fallen in love with their pushing-the-boundary kind of books for children – and yay too for BC picturebook makers!
SOOO much of the books available here are American, so it’s nice to branch out and get different perspectives, too!
